A Vedic birth chart, also known as a Janam Kundli or Kundali, is the sky at your first moment. On its own it is a set of placements: Ascendant, Moon sign, planets in signs and houses, Nakshatras, and timing periods.
Chart interpretation turns that map into a reading. How the reading is built
How Is a Vedic Chart Interpreted?
First your sidereal chart is calculated with Lahiri Ayanamsa. Then the main placements are gathered into plain-language notes you can read in order.
The calculation uses your exact local birth time and place, sidereal planetary positions, the true lunar node, whole-sign houses, Vimshottari Dasha, and Navamsa. The reading only begins once those placements are in place.
Your overview brings together the Ascendant and its lord, the Moon and Nakshatra, important houses and planets, the current Mahadasha, and a Navamsa summary. Later sections open each of those themes in more detail, without burying the chart under endless repeated paragraphs.
The result is educational and reflective. It does not invent the sky, and it does not promise to predict every event. A full consultation would still weigh aspects, planetary strength, and the chart as one whole.
Two interpretive traditions
Vedic vs Western Birth Chart Reading
Both traditions can offer a birth-chart reading. Vedic work usually starts from the sidereal zodiac and leans on Lagna, Nakshatra, Dasha, and divisional charts.
A Western reading often uses the tropical zodiac and may emphasize Sun-sign psychology, aspects, and outer-planet cycles. A Vedic birth chart reading typically centers the Ascendant, the Moon’s Nakshatra, house lords, Rahu and Ketu, planetary periods, and charts such as Navamsa.
Because the zodiac reference differs by roughly twenty-four degrees, many placements shift signs between systems. That is why a Vedic astrology reading should be calculated sidereally rather than translated casually from a tropical chart.
