Our story

Why VedicChart exists

Jyotish deserves a calculator that is honest about the astronomy, careful about time, and modest about what a placement alone can claim.

Many free chart sites either hide the method or decorate a Western tropical chart with Jyotish vocabulary. Others push a chart behind an account, a mailing list, or a checkout before you can see the basics. VedicChart started from a different choice: calculate the sidereal chart properly, explain each result in context, and let the chart speak before any interpretation is offered.

That means birth time and place are not optional extras. The Ascendant moves through a sign roughly every two hours, Navamsa turns even faster, and historical time-zone changes — including the hour that is skipped or repeated when clocks change — can shift a chart by an hour if the wrong rule is applied to an older birth. VedicChart is therefore built around exact onset: local time → historical zone → UTC → sidereal placement.

The project is maintained as a small, focused product — not a horoscope portal — so the calculator, the guides, and the reading order stay consistent. We would rather keep one chart right than publish ten thin pages that recycle the same keyword list.

Resolve the exact moment

Combine your birth date, local time, and selected place → apply that place's historical time-zone record → handle DST gaps and repeats → resolve a precise UTC instant.

Place the heavens in the sidereal zodiac

Planetary positions and the Ascendant are first computed astronomically, then shifted with the Lahiri correction into the sidereal zodiac; whole-sign houses and the true lunar node complete the map.

Derive Nakshatra, Dasha, and Navamsa

The Moon's sidereal longitude determines Nakshatra, pada, and the opening Dasha balance; each 30° sign divided into nine yields D9.

The short reading after calculation is rule-based — the same placements produce the same summary — and is offered for reflection. It stays strictly within the calculated chart and does not invent personal details beyond it.

Accuracy, sobriety, and respect for the reader. We will not inflate a transit, invent specificity where the chart is uncertain, or turn a difficult placement into fear.

Accuracy before decoration

Lahiri correction, whole-sign houses, the true lunar node, and full time-zone history are not marketing words — they decide the chart you see. We publish the settings so any reader can reproduce the result or file a correction.

Education before prediction

We teach reading order — Lagna first, then Moon, then houses, then timing — so you can weigh a striking placement against the whole chart. A fuller reading still considers dignity, aspects, yogas, and the chart as one whole.

Privacy by restraint

No account, no saved chart archive, no advertising cookie. Birth details are sent only to compute the chart you requested, the response is marked private and not warehoused, and we do not intentionally write birth bodies to application logs.

Honesty about limits

A chart shows emphasis and timing, not a guaranteed outcome in health, wealth, or relationships. If birth time is uncertain, we say so — and we mark house-based and Navamsa conclusions as provisional rather than certain.

Free core, sustainable product

The core Vedic chart and companion calculators are free. Any future paid feature (for example, export or saved charts) would be added openly without taking the current free chart away.

Open to correction

If you find a place record, time-zone edge case, or placement you believe is wrong, write to support@vedicchart.net. We check it against the same calculation and publish corrections openly.

What VedicChart is — and is not

VedicChart is a calculation and learning tool. It shows sidereal positions derived from your birth data and offers a rule-based short reading tied to those positions. It is not a professional consultation, and it is not a source of medical, financial, or legal advice.

We do not diagnose, prescribe, trade on your behalf, or promise that a Dasha or transit alone will decide a career, marriage, or health outcome. Use the chart for reflection, planning, and self-study — then bring consequential decisions to a qualified professional.

Where we are headed

Roadmap — openly stated

Today the calculator and the short reading are live. What is listed as a roadmap item is not yet a published page.

At the moment VedicChart offers the birth chart calculator and the short reading, together with the Nakshatra, Sade Sati, Dasha, and Navamsa tools and the long-form reading guides. That set — calculation plus education — is the product.

Independent deep-dive calculators and any saved-chart or export features remain roadmap items, not promises. If they are introduced, they will be announced on the site; "live" or "production" status itself should be verified from the deployed site, not from a roadmap sentence.

Is VedicChart free?

Yes. The Vedic birth chart, Nakshatra, Sade Sati, Dasha, and Navamsa calculators and the short rule-based reading are free without an account. The site is funded as a focused educational tool; if any paid feature is ever added, it would be introduced separately without putting the core chart behind a paywall.

Is VedicChart run by professional astrologers?

VedicChart is a calculation and education project first. Charts are built with standard sidereal methods — Lahiri correction, whole-sign houses, and the true lunar node — and the short reading is rule-based text derived directly from the calculated placements, not a live consultation. For nuanced, synthesis-level judgment about a life, a qualified astrologer still adds value that a calculator alone cannot.

How is VedicChart different from Sun-sign or Western calculators?

VedicChart uses the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri) and the systems Jyotish readers expect — Lagna, Nakshatras, whole-sign houses, Vimshottari Dasha, and Navamsa — with careful handling of historical time zones, including daylight-saving transitions. Many Western sites use the tropical zodiac and a different timing vocabulary. That shifts most placements by about 24°, so a proper Vedic chart must be recalculated in the sidereal system rather than relabeled.

Where does VedicChart get birthplace data?

Birthplace search uses a curated database of public geographic records (from GeoNames) together with historical time-zone data. When you select a place, we use its coordinates and time-zone history only to fix the exact local moment of birth before the astronomical calculation. Your search terms are not used for profiling or advertising.
