Sample career analysis
D10 Ascendant. In this example, the Dasamsa (D10) Ascendant is Scorpio, often read through investigation, resilience, and transformative focus. Its lord, Mars, is in Capricorn in the 3rd house of D10 (from Leo in the birth chart), so professional style leans toward effort, skill, and self-driven initiative. Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn occupy the D10 Ascendant together—mind and duty sit on the rising line of the career chart, giving the professional style a serious, enduring stamp rather than a light public gloss.
D10 tenth house. The D10 tenth house is Leo, ruled by the Sun. The Sun sits in Gemini in the 8th house of D10, the same sign as in the birth chart, so status themes move through research, shared resources, and deep specialization. No planet occupies the tenth house itself. In the birth chart the tenth is Gemini (Mercury) from a Virgo Ascendant, while Dasamsa uses Leo—two related views of work, not two job titles. Read the birth chart for the outer field of work and Dasamsa for how role and standing mature.
Sun, Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter. Saturn joins the D10 Ascendant in Scorpio, linking duty with the career rising sign. Jupiter is also in Scorpio in the 1st house, bringing counsel beside the professional persona. Mercury shares Gemini in the 8th house with the Sun, so skill and speech move through research and specialization. Mars in Capricorn in the 3rd house, with Rahu, adds drive and stretch to effort-based work. None of these name a salary band or job title on their own.
Birth chart and limits. A full personal result also shows the current Dasha period beside the birth-chart tenth house. This sample stays with placements only—career themes, not a fixed profession or guaranteed status.

A career divisional chart
What Is a Dasamsa (D10) Chart?
The Dasamsa (D10), also spelled Dashamsa or Dashamsha, is a divisional chart used in Vedic astrology to examine career, profession, professional responsibilities, and public standing. It divides each zodiac sign into ten parts and is interpreted alongside the main D1 birth chart.
In Jyotish, the D1 or Rasi chart shows where the planets stood in the twelve signs at birth. Divisional charts zoom into those longitudes. Dasamsa—the D10 chart—cuts each 30° sign into ten equal parts of 3° and remaps each planet into a Dasamsa sign. The same mapping produces the D10 Ascendant from the birth Lagna degree.
Traditional readers use that second map for how work, status, and public role take shape, not as a separate biography. D10 is strongest when kept beside the D1 tenth house, the running Dasha, and the rest of the birth chart. It does not independently decide a specific profession, future salary, or promotion date.
A practical D10 reading usually starts with the Dasamsa Ascendant and its lord, then the D10 tenth house and tenth lord, then the placement of career-sensitive grahas such as the Sun, Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter. That order stays close to what the sky shows rather than drifting into generic job labels.
Because each Dasamsa is only 3° wide, exact birth time matters. A small timing error can move the D10 Ascendant or shift a planet across a boundary. Use a recorded birth time whenever you can, then read D10 as a companion to the full Vedic chart rather than a standalone verdict.
From birth position to Dasamsa
How Is the Dashamsa (D10) Chart Calculated?
Each 30° zodiac sign is divided into ten Dasamsas. Each division measures 3°. A planet’s sidereal position in the D1 chart is placed into one of those tenths, which becomes its D10 sign. Odd-numbered signs begin the count from the sign itself; even-numbered signs begin from the ninth sign counted from that sign. The same method produces the D10 Ascendant from the birth Lagna degree.
Charts here use the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri Ayanamsa, the true lunar node, and whole-sign houses in Dasamsa—the same approach as the full Vedic birth chart on this site. First the planets are placed; then you can read the D10 Lagna, tenth house, D1 versus D10 changes, and a traditional career-theme analysis.
The aim is a clear Dasamsa you can use, not a long manual on calculating every division by hand. Exact birth time still matters most when a planet or the Ascendant sits near a 3° boundary.
- 1Settle the birth moment
Combine date, exact local time, and birthplace, including the place’s historical time zone and any daylight-saving clock change on that date.
- 2Find sidereal positions
Calculate planetary and Lagna positions, then apply Lahiri Ayanamsa so the chart uses the sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical one.
- 3Map each tenth
Divide every 30° sign into ten parts of 3°, assign each position its Dasamsa sign with the odd/even starting rule, and build the D10 chart with whole-sign houses from the D10 Ascendant.

How to Read Your D10 Chart for Career
Start with the D10 Ascendant and its lord, then the D10 tenth house and tenth lord, then key planets in Dasamsa, and keep the D1 tenth house and current Dasha in view.
After your chart appears, begin with the overview: D10 Lagna, Ascendant lord, tenth house, tenth lord, and any planets in the D10 10th. That sketch of the career chart helps before you read the fuller tables.
Then read the career analysis for how those placements sit in your personal Dasamsa. Compare each planet’s D1 and D10 signs, notice where the charts agree, and ask how D10 reframes a planet that looked simple in the birth chart. Keep D1 primary; let D10 qualify professional style, responsibility, and public-role emphasis.
- D10 Ascendant: the rising sign, its lord, and any planets there—how the career chart orients.
- D10 tenth house: the status house, its lord, planets inside it, and how those two lords relate.
- Sun, Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter: their Dasamsa signs and houses, and whether they shifted from the birth chart.
- Birth chart and timing: the D1 tenth house beside the D10 tenth, plus the current Dasha period.
After you calculate, your result walks through the same ground with your placements. Stay with what the sky shows rather than forecasts. The free reading does not invent job titles, salary bands, or promotion years. A fuller consultation would still weigh aspects, yogas, timing, and the chart as one whole.
Common questions
D10 Chart Calculator FAQ
What is a D10 or Dasamsa chart?
The Dasamsa, or D10 chart, is a divisional chart in Vedic astrology used to examine career, profession, professional responsibilities, and public standing. It is built by dividing each 30° zodiac sign into ten parts of 3° and mapping planets into those tenths. Traditional practice reads it with the main D1 birth chart, not instead of it.
How can I calculate my D10 chart for free?
Enter your birth date, exact birth time, and birthplace above, then choose Calculate My D10 Chart. No signup is required. The free calculator uses Lahiri Ayanamsa to place the planets in the sidereal zodiac, finds your D10 Ascendant and each planet’s Dasamsa sign, and shows D1 and D10 charts with tenth-house career markers and a traditional career-theme reading.
Is Dashamsa the same as Dasamsa?
Yes. Dasamsa, Dashamsa, and Dashamsha are spelling variants of the same tenth divisional chart. “D10” is the modern D-chart label used by many Jyotish programs and calculators.
How is the D10 chart calculated?
Each sign is split into ten Dasamsas of 3°. Odd-numbered signs begin their count from the sign itself; even-numbered signs begin from the ninth sign from that sign. The same rule maps the birth Ascendant degree into the D10 Lagna. This calculator applies those Parāśari mapping rules after computing sidereal positions with Lahiri Ayanamsa.
How do I read my D10 chart for career?
Start with the D10 Ascendant and its lord, then the D10 tenth house and tenth lord, then notice Sun, Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter in Dasamsa. Compare those placements with the D1 tenth house and the running Dasha. Treat the result as career themes and professional style—not a single job title, salary forecast, or promotion date.
What is the difference between D1, D9, and D10?
D1 (Rasi) is the main birth chart. D9 (Navamsa) is commonly read for planetary strength, dharma, maturity, and relationship tone. D10 (Dasamsa) is the career and public-role division. All three are strongest when read together, with D1 kept primary. Use the Navamsa calculator on this site when you want the D9 view.
Do I need an exact birth time for the D10 chart?
Yes, whenever you can provide it. Each Dasamsa is only 3° wide, so a small timing shift can move the D10 Ascendant or shift a planet across a boundary. Birthplace matters too for the correct historical time zone and any daylight-saving change on that date. If the recorded time is uncertain, treat the D10 Lagna and fine placements as provisional.
